Job Summary
Design and analyze support and equipment hardware for the US ITER Project Office, performing complex structural support analysis for carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials per US and European code requirements. Develop and alter linear and nonlinear structural analyses of Tokamak components using FEA software, check concrete anchorage, and document results in Design Analysis Calculation packages. Review and check work of other project participants, present design reviews to the International Office, and assist in developing project guidance documents and Statements of Work. Oversee equipment fabrication and evaluate vendor proposals while managing domestic and foreign travel. Maintain effective relationships with a diverse international team and subject matter experts during design reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in design, fabrication, and/or assembly of nuclear hardware and structures
- Experience with STAAD or other Structural Analysis Software
- Familiarity with ANSI/AISC, AWS, and ACI codes and standards
- US citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5 or more years of related work experience
Desired Qualifications
- 10 or more years of specialized experience in design, fabrication and assembly of large-scale fusion energy or nuclear supports and hardware
- Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate problems, investigate and propose solutions, perform calculations, apply industry standards, and document design and fabrication activities
- Demonstrated ability to manage and plan a design activity, plan and direct work of analysis and interface effectively with management
- Solid understanding of structural design and analysis fundamentals and their application to large facilities
- Extensive knowledge and expertise using Eurocode and/or ISO standards
- Experience creating and manipulating 2D/3D structural models, 2D part drawings and assemblies
- Ability to evaluate non-conformances and deviations from drawings, technical specifications, and requirements
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a diverse international project team
- Familiarity or experience with piping systems, superconducting electromagnets, fusion energy technology, cryogenics, vacuum systems and/or large electro-mechanical devices
- Experience with designing pipe supports and equipment following AISC or EN code guidelines
- Experience with piping design (ASME B31.3 and/or EN equivalent)
- Finite element modeling using ANSYS
- An advanced degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
