Job Summary
Lead structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes, formulas, and experience while planning and executing complex engineering work. Prepare and review drawings, specifications, and calculations; develop innovative solutions to challenging design problems; and assume the lead engineer's role on assigned projects. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, direct designer and drafter activities, and manage project schedules and budgets. Conduct field activities to observe conditions and verify measurements, then present technical design approaches to clients, architects, and non-technical stakeholders. Attend client meetings as a Subject Matter Expert and research design options for the Engineer of Record.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- 5+ years' experience as a structural engineer
- EIT required
- History of successful completion of projects
- Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others
- Understand 2-D and 3-D drafting techniques
- Firm knowledge of design codes including: ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.
- Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation
- Routinely use standard office equipment such as but not limited to: computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms
- The employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear
- Occasional lifting in up to 50lbs
- Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates
- Ability to work long hours and overtime when projects demand
Desired Qualifications
- PE preferred
- Preferred experience with engineering and/ design software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, Civil 3D, RISA, Excel Spreadsheets, Bluebeam REVU etc.
