Job Summary

Deliver DWS product and materials based on customer needs and DOT standards by loading and unloading trailers, railcars, and flatbeds. Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, jib cranes, and gantry cranes to move steel shapes, beams, tubes, and other structural materials. Assist customers with unloading trucks when necessary and identify specific steel sizes and types. Perform minor mechanical tasks on equipment including daily inspections and cleaning. Interpret shop drawings and shop orders to locate and stage materials accurately. Work 40 hours per week, with overtime and weekend availability based on operational needs. Maintain a clean driving record while operating a Class A CDL commercial vehicle.

Required Qualifications

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Current Class A CDL
  • Minimum of 2 years driving (tractor/trailer/flatbed) experience with a clean driving record
  • Ability to operate a commercial vehicle in a safe and professional manner
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical
  • Ability to understand and follow all established DOT guidelines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors, co-workers, supervisors and managers
  • Ability to understand and carry out semi-complicated verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to read, write, and perform higher arithmetic computations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals and fractions
  • Ability to work under periodic supervision focused on the progress of work and setting priorities for job completion
  • Skill in using tape measure
  • Ability to interpret and understand shop orders, and shop drawings
  • Ability to possess pride in own workmanship, demonstrate attention to detail, and work safely
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes in a safe and proper manner
  • Ability to use and understand industry and Drake-Williams Steel adopted hand signals used for crane operations
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Hear sufficiently to be aware of safety issues
  • Visual ability to read and interpret shop drawings
  • Ability to pass a Drake-Williams Steel, Inc. administered test that covers shop drawing interpretation, fractional number calculations, basic geometry, etc.
