Job Summary
Lead as Project Manager, Structural Lead, and Designer for diverse bridge projects from concept to completion, while visiting sites to collect data, assess structures, and oversee construction progress. Mentor engineering teams to foster collaboration across geotechnical, highway, and environmental disciplines, and drive business growth through proposal preparation and client interactions. Prepare technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates ensuring adherence to design codes, and perform quality checks on contract documents and deliverables. Utilize advanced analysis software and computer programming to develop bespoke designs and efficient workflows. Engage with universities for academic partnerships and present findings at conferences.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Registration or eligibility for registration with provincial Engineering Associations
- Minimum five years of structural engineering experience for intermediate candidates
- Minimum of three years specifically in bridge engineering
- Ten years of structural engineering experience for senior candidates
- At least five years focused on bridge engineering
- In-depth knowledge of bridge design and constructability
- Proficiency in current design codes, including the CHBDC (CAN/CSA S6)
- Bridge inspection experience
- Strong understanding of material conditions and defects
- Demonstrated expertise in designing both concrete and steel bridges for short and medium spans
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to effectively convey technical information
- Ability to draft detailed reports and proposals
- Ability to work seamlessly with drafting personnel and multidisciplinary teams
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Ability to maintain attention to detail
- Ability to oversee project timelines and budgets
- Strong capability to engage with clients
- Ability to represent the company effectively
- Contribution to business development efforts through proposal preparation and client interactions
- Familiarity with Atlantic Canadian and/or Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications
- Experience with various inspection methodologies, especially OSIM
- Knowledge of timber design
- Familiarity with US and/or European codes
- A passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers and technologists
- Advanced analytical and computer modeling skills
- Proficiency in LUSAS Bridge
- Strong client relationship management skills
Desired Qualifications
- A Master's or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on bridge design, construction, or rehabilitation
