Job Summary
Conduct structural and dynamic analyses to validate umbilical systems, launch pad structures, and ground support equipment during launch and abort operations. Evaluate disconnect timing, clearance requirements, load conditions, and load paths for lifting fixtures, transport frames, and handling rings. Develop hand calculations and finite element models using ANSYS, Nastran, or Abaqus to support design validation and engineering releases. Prepare analysis reports for design reviews while ensuring compliance with NASA-STD-8719, ASME BTH-1, and other applicable safety standards. Collaborate with design and drafting teams to support structural design decisions and transportation/handling tooling development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural Engineering, or a related field
- Experience performing structural analysis using hand calculations and FEA methods
- Proficiency with ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus, or similar analysis tools
- Strong understanding of static, dynamic, thermal, and load path analysis
- Familiarity with factors of safety, rated loads, and lifting/handling standards such as NASA-STD-8719 or ASME BTH-1
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with launch vehicle ground systems, umbilical, or test equipment
- Familiarity with NASA MSFC engineering standards and processes
- Experience supporting launch, abort, transportation, or handling load case development
