Job Summary
Streetworker to recruit participants for UTEC’s Workforce Program and help reduce violence in Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill through gang peacemaking. Responsibilities include street- and neighborhood-based outreach (frequenting local gang hotspots, parks), visiting other youth-serving organizations, receiving referrals from partner agencies, and delivering trainings on gang awareness/intervention. Duties also cover peace-making with gang-involved youth (meetings, trips, circles, summits), crisis intervention and conflict resolution, following up on referrals (jails, prisons, schools, probation, DYS), conducting in-reach visits to facilities prior to release, facilitating small group circles in county jails, providing transition support for youth returning from incarceration, maintaining caseloads (15-21 youths), updating paperwork, and building partnerships with neighborhood organizations. The role requires being on 24-hour call, and candidates should have experience with youth outreach and restorative justice; a Merrimack Valley/Lawrence familiarity and English/Spanish language skills are advantageous. Starting salary is $55,000-$65,000 with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Youth work experience with proven risk young adults and justice-involved youth
- Ability to connect with young adults and build real relationships
- Knowledge of correction institutions and reentry programs
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
- Ability to be on call on rotating schedule (24-hour)
- Comfortable leading trainings, circles, and focus groups
- Ability to develop Individual Success Plans and implement them
- Understanding of trauma and providing caring support
- Driver's license and ability to lift 25 lbs
