Job Summary
Street Lighting Designer role in Calgary, AB with Primary Engineering and Construction Corporation. Work within a multidisciplinary team addressing electrical, lighting, and traffic signal systems design, develop power distribution, lighting, and auxiliary designs using AutoCAD, AGi32, and MicroStation; prepare wire sizing, voltage drop, and conduit capacity calculations; produce technical reports, tender documentation, and provide field support including commissioning/site inspections; ensure deliverables meet regulations, standards, and QA/QC programs; collaborate with clients, authorities, utilities, and stakeholders; requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related diploma and 0–4 years of experience; Alberta P.Eng./P.Tech or eligibility to obtain is preferred; valid Alberta Class 5 license; in Calgary, with in-office (in-person) arrangement; familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code and experience in municipal roadway lighting and traffic signal systems asset is a plus; strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential; company offers competitive compensation and growth opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma
- 0–4 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably in street/roadway lighting and electrical systems design; candidates with transferable industry experience will also be considered
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and AGi32 lighting design software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- P.Eng. or P.Tech designation in Alberta, or eligibility to obtain
- Experience in municipal roadway lighting design; familiarity with traffic signal systems is an asset
- Experience with site inspections, construction support, or contract administration
- Experience contributing to large, multi-disciplinary projects
- Experience in a consulting environment
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada at time of application
