Job Summary
STRAW Bilingual Conservation Educator responsible for delivering outdoor, English- and Spanish-language K-12 lessons in the Bay Area, leading restoration-day activities, and coordinating school visits. Primary duties include teaching outdoors on school campuses, developing and translating curriculum into Spanish, leading large and small student groups, coordinating visits, and supporting STRAW Apprentices and outreach to local high schools and colleges. The role emphasizes place-based, environmental education, inquiry-based learning, and culturally relevant teaching, with travel within Sonoma and Marin counties for field sites and restoration activities. Requires enthusiasm for community-based ecological restoration, strong classroom management, collaborative teamwork, and the ability to work in varied outdoor environments; must hold or pursue Wilderness First Responder/First Aid certification and a valid CA driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience with K-12 students
- Fluent in Spanish (spoken and written)
- Valid California driver’s license and favorable driving history, with proof of auto insurance
- Ability to meet Wilderness First Responder/Wilderness First Aid certification requirements
- Must meet school district requirements to work with school children
