Job Summary
Strategist, Corporate Communications responsible for providing strategic communications support to the City’s legislative agenda, crisis/emergency communications, and development of the Annual Strategic Corporate Communications Plan. Leads and advises on complex, high-profile issues; writes and edits communications products; coordinates with senior management, Mayor’s Office, Council, and other departments; builds equity-focused communications strategies; supports media relations activities including interviews, media inquiries, and responses, while safeguarding the City’s brand and reputation. Requires a four-year degree in journalism or communications and eight years of experience in communications/public relations/media relations, with at least five years in the field; must meet bilingual language requirements (French and English) from Day 1; strong strategic, writing, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills; experience with crisis or emergency communications and understanding municipal government functions; proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with health and safety legislation. The role involves collaboration with internal partners, senior leadership, elected officials, and the media to deliver accurate, timely, and transparent information for Ottawa residents.
Required Qualifications
- Four-year university undergraduate degree in journalism or communications, or an equivalent combination of experience and training in a related field
- Eight years experience, with at least five years in the field of communications, public relations, marketing and/or media relations, with progressive experience in projects of increasing complexity
- Language Requirement: French language proficiency (oral, reading, writing) and English language proficiency (oral, reading, writing) upon hire
