Strategic Finance & Business Operations Lead

Job Summary
Build and own Alma's financial model end-to-end, run the monthly close cycle, and manage budget vs. actuals, rolling forecasts, and cash management. Own headcount planning, unit economics at the case and client level, and pricing strategies to protect margins. Partner with the CEO on investor updates and quarterly board reporting while supporting the next fundraise by building the data room and owning diligence workstreams. Fix broken internal and legal operations by partnering with Legal and Product to automate processes and eliminate duplication. Write spend and approval policies, manage AR/AP oversight, and design reporting dashboards so the next five operations hires inherit a system instead of tribal knowledge. Consolidate vendor tooling, optimize procurement costs, and lead office and real estate decisions. This role sits in our San Francisco office and requires 1–3 years of investment banking or consulting experience with high agency and low ego.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of investment banking, or a banking-and-consulting combination
- a stint in finance, strategy, or ops at an early-stage startup
- excellent in Excel
- ability to build a three-statement model from scratch
- ability to explain a model to someone who doesn't care about models
- real judgment about money
- ability to decide whether a budget request is reasonable
- ability to write policy so future budget requests answer themselves
- breadth over depth (finance, ops, and strategy)
- high agency, low ego
- ability to influence people who don't report to you
- ability to work brutal hours
