Job Summary

Strategic Advisor in the Economic Development & Infrastructure Branch responsible for providing high-level strategic guidance, policy development, and advisory support to advance AFN priorities in economic development, infrastructure, and fisheries. Role involves leading strategic planning, offering expert policy recommendations, monitoring legislative and socio-economic trends, serving as a key advisor to the Branch Senior Director, collaborating with senior leadership and external partners, representing the EDI Branch in meetings and conferences, building strategic relationships with First Nations leaders and government/industry partners, coordinating with external consultants, developing strategic communications (briefing notes, reports, presentations), acting as a spokesperson for the EDI Branch, and mentoring staff while contributing to internal processes and systems to support strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in political science, economics, public administration, or a related field (equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered)
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of senior-level experience in strategic planning, policy development, or advisory roles
  • In-depth understanding of First Nations political, economic, and social contexts
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic initiatives in collaboration with diverse stakeholders
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to navigate complex political environments with tact and diplomacy
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities
