Job Summary
Story Desk Editor on the Story Management Desk combines assignment editing and digital content production to lead breaking news coverage across digital, streaming, social, and broadcast platforms. Lead coverage during breaking news, plan stories relevant to the community, create and edit engaging content for website, app and streaming, guide newsroom logistics, edit reporter content for accuracy and AP style, enhance storytelling with graphics or audience-submitted content, and use metrics to inform coverage while upholding TEGNA’s journalistic standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
- 1–3 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production, or related role
- Strong news judgment and the ability to make fast, sound editorial decisions under pressure
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce accurate and compelling content quickly
- Experience with newsroom systems, CMS tools
- Organizational skills to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset that thrives in a team environment
