Job Summary
Story Desk Editor leads and coordinates newsroom coverage during breaking news, curates and edits engaging content for digital platforms (website, mobile app, streaming) and across social and broadcast channels, guides newsroom logistics, edits reporter content for accuracy and AP style, and collaborates with MSJs, producers, and photojournalists to deliver accurate, engaging stories. The role combines responsibilities of an assignment editor and a digital content producer, using editorial judgment, storytelling elements, and metrics to inform coverage and improve audience reach while upholding journalistic standards and values across platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
- 1–3 years of journalism experience in a local newsroom, digital production, or related role
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce accurate and compelling content quickly
- Experience with newsroom systems, CMS tools
- Organizational skills to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- A collaborative, solutions-focused mindset that thrives in a team environment
