Job Summary
Operate and maintain stormwater infrastructure and heavy equipment in Abilene under varying supervision levels; Trainee to II progression includes skilled operation of loaders, graders, excavators, vac-trucks, street sweepers, and other heavy equipment, with responsibilities including minor maintenance, on-call emergencies, project oversight, and coordination with Crew Chief and Maintenance Supervisor; requires safe operation, effective communication, and adherence to city core values while achieving engineered grades and proper water flow.
Required Qualifications
- Six (6) months of experience operating heavy equipment (Trainee)
- A high school diploma or a GED
- A valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment
- A Non-Commercial Herbicide Applicator License from Texas Department of Agriculture is preferred
- Heavy Equipment Operator I requires a CDL (Class A)
- Two (2) years of experience equivalent to Heavy Equipment Operator I for Operator II
- Experience operating heavy equipment including crawler tractor, wheel loader, Gradall, hydraulic excavator, knuckle boom truck, etc.
- Ability to travel to different work sites and be available after work hours
- Bloodborne Pathogens and HazCom training within sixty (60) days of employment
