Job Summary

STORE MANAGER at Dollar General reports to store leadership and is responsible for managing all employees and store processes including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, merchandising, staffing and support. Recruits, selects, retains and trains employees; conducts performance evaluations and provides counseling up to termination as needed. Manages staffing levels, opens/closes store, monitors sales and inventory, analyzes operating statements for trends, and ensures in-stock targets. Oversees cashier accountability, cash control procedures, safety and security, customer service leadership, store cleanliness, and adherence to company policies. Regularly communicates expectations, coordinates meetings, and drives adherence to SOPs and policies. Maintains inventory accuracy, proper presentation of merchandise, pricing and signage, and proper use of fixtures. Ensures compliance with federal and state labor laws, internal processes, and documentation deadlines. Demonstrates leadership, develops staff, recruits and trains qualified applicants, and ensures overall store performance and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
  • One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices
  • Ability to perform IBM cash register functions to generate reports
  • Knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices (deposits, store keys, SAFE program, etc.)
  • Good organization skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to recruit, interview, hire, counsel and terminate personnel in accordance with policy and law
  • Ability to train and develop staff
  • Knowledge of federal labor laws and company policies and procedures
  • Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred for some locations
