Job Summary
Store Manager at Dollar General responsible for managing all store employees and executing store processes across ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing and support. Recruits, selects and retains qualified employees per federal and state laws; provides training, conducts performance evaluations, and counsels or terminates as needed. Makes recommendations on pay rates and advancement, communicates performance and safety expectations, and coordinates meetings to reinforce policies. Ensures the store opens and closes as required, analyzes operating statements for trends and opportunities, and oversees inventory targets, ordering plans, and basic stock replenishment. Supervises merchandising presentation, pricing, signage, and fixture utilization; maintains accurate inventory and controls shrink, damages, and cash procedures to preserve financial integrity. Delivers strong customer service leadership, maintains a clean and safe store environment, ensures policy compliance, completes paperwork on schedule, and aligns staffing and processes with company standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
- One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices including legal compliance and internal processes
- Knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices (deposits, store keys, SAFE program, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions
