Job Summary
The Store Manager Candidate role supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking/receiving, paperwork, and store needs, and is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager position for a limited period. Responsibilities include assisting in recruiting and staffing, merchandising and stocking, inventory management, order practices to meet in-stock targets, providing superior customer service leadership, participating in opening/closing activities, ensuring safe deposits and cash control, maintaining clean, well-stocked stores, operating in the store manager's absence, reviewing operating statements for trends, and completing all paperwork per guidelines. Qualifications emphasize ability to read and interpret documents, basic math, cash handling, IBM cash register proficiency, knowledge of inventory and merchandising practices, safety and security policy knowledge, recruiting/interviewing/hiring practices, and strong communication and organizational skills. Preferred bilingual Spanish speakers, and a high school diploma or equivalent with one year retail experience preferred for external candidates.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
- One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls
- Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including those necessary to generate reports
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices
- Knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices including legal compliance and internal processes
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Effective organization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists
- Certain store locations may give preference to bilingual Spanish speakers
