Job Summary
Greet customers and donors courteously while processing transactions, managing cash, and handling refunds. Sort incoming donations, load/unload raw materials, and price merchandise to maintain accurate inventory levels. Assist with store layout by updating window displays and ensuring tidy maintenance throughout the retail space. Monitor store security, perform rotational cleaning duties, and ensure compliance with health and safety policies. This permanent full-time role at the Mill Bay Thrift Store requires standing for long periods and lifting up to 30 pounds. Candidates must have cash handling experience and a willingness to support the organization's mission of serving those in need.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of some high school course work
- Have a few months of experience in processing or distribution of goods or customer service
- Knowledge of lifting guidelines
- Cash handling experience
- Experience with cash registers and related processes and procedures i.e., bank deposits, summary reports, etc.
- Attention to detail
- Self-motivated/disciplined
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills (oral)
- Physically capable of lifting/carrying up to 29 lbs on a frequent basis with no assistance from others, which includes bending, twisting, pulling, pushing of products
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures
- Work schedule may vary from week to week and will include weekdays and/or Saturdays
