Job Summary
Decontaminate, assemble, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment while independently following cleaning checklists and applying aseptic technique. Determine operational adequacy of processing equipment, distinguish between operator error and malfunction, and maintain knowledge of AAMI, ANSI, and infection control standards. Initiate cleaning, restock work areas, order supplies, and assist in inventory procurement to manage costs. Float between decontamination and sterile processing areas, maintain communication with operating room staff, and report occurrences through established processes. Collaborate with disciplines to ensure smooth surgical flow, foster educational development of colleagues and students, and maintain a clean, safe environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent
- Ability to comply with company policies, procedures, practices and business ethics guidelines
- Ability to complete job required training
- Ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate prompt and reliable attendance
- Ability to work in the surgery center during business hours
- Ability to travel independently throughout the surgery center
- Ability to work at an efficient and productive pace, handle interruptions appropriately and meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate and interact in a respectful and professional manner
- Ability to prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations
- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to understand and execute a variety of instructions
- Ability to effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel to other work locations, if required
- Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout the shift
- Ability to frequently perform physical activities such as pushing, pulling, and reaching
- Visual acuity to read electronic and paper documents
- Auditory ability to participate in phone or video calls clearly
- Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, phone, printer)
- Ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations, (e.g. HIPAA, Stark, OSHA, employment laws, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
- Sterile Processing Tech certification preferred
- Instrument processing/Sterile processing experience preferred
