Job Summary
Decontaminate, assemble, sterilize, and distribute reusable surgical instrumentation and implants throughout the organization using steam, hydrogen peroxide, sonic, and automated washer equipment. Operate sterilization machinery according to manufacturer IFU guidelines while maintaining sterile inventory through par level maintenance and stock rotation. Prepare OR case carts, inspect packages for proper sterilization, and resolve instrument issues by communicating with outside departments and receiving loaner trays via Casechek. Train and assist Sterile Processing Technician I staff and maintain documentation for quality assurance and troubleshooting. Perform all duties under general supervision of the Sterile Processing Supervisor or Educator in accordance with SPD policies and SOPs.
Required Qualifications
- High School or equivalent
- Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or an accredited Surgical Technician program
- 1 year Sterile Processing
- Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard and mouse operation
- Ability to operate complex machinery including washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers
- Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple, complex tasks
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD) or Valid Certified Surgical Tech (CST) or Surgery-Certified Credential (TS-C) from CAAHEP or ABHES certification
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Additional three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Tech (if no completion of program)
- Additional three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Tech (if no completion of program)
