Job Summary
Decontaminate, wash, and sterilize reusable surgical instruments and implants using steam, hydrogen peroxide, and automated washers. Assemble and package instrument sets per manufacturer IFU guidelines, then distribute sterile supplies to operating rooms and ancillary departments. Maintain inventory through par level management, stock rotation, and quality assurance while inspecting packages for sterilization integrity. Operate sterilization equipment, troubleshoot routine issues, and maintain documentation via the Censitrac tracking system. Train junior technicians and interface with outside departments to resolve instrument shortages.
Required Qualifications
- High School or equivalent
- Completion of a Sterile Processing Program or an accredited Surgical Technician program
- If no completion of program, must have an additional three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Tech
- If no completion of program, must have an additional three years of experience as a Sterile Processing Tech
- 1 year Sterile Processing
- Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard and mouse operation
- Ability to operate complex machinery including washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers
- Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple, complex tasks
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Sterile Processing Certification
- Current Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD) or Valid Certified Surgical Tech (CST) or Surgery-Certified Credential (TS-C) from CAAHEP or ABHES certification (Must be maintained by renewal before expiration date)
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City)
- If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date (Required within LA City only)
