Job Summary
Conduct daily decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instruments using aseptic techniques and Tray Tracking system. Inspect, sort, and process instrumentation while operating ultrasonic cleaners, washer-decontaminators, and sterilizers per established guidelines. Prepare and deliver accurate case carts, respond to supply requests, and perform quality assurance testing on equipment. Maintain logs, check expired items, and rotate through assigned areas to meet customer service needs. Act as a resource to staff and serve as a preceptor during new employee training. Complete work from previous shifts to accommodate department schedules and communicate issues to management via Spectralink. Maintain National or International certification and assist in continuing education.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Current certification by the National Institute for the Certification of Healthcare Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel (NICHSPD) or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution (CBSPD)
- Experience and knowledge of surgical instrumentation
- Experience and knowledge in the use of all types of sterilization processes, decontamination, packing and shelf life, including aseptic techniques and their applications to various items processed
