Job Summary
Ensure availability of cleaned, prepared, and sterilized equipment and supplies for surgical procedures by receiving, cleaning, distributing, and storing medical instruments. Disassemble and clean critical reusable medical equipment per manufacturer instructions, then inspect, package, and reassemble surgical instruments and trays according to established priorities. Perform high-level disinfection, pre-vacuum sterilization, gravity displacement sterilization, and hydrogen peroxide plasma sterilization while maintaining accurate records and document control. Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, including respecting privacy and communicating services effectively. Work flexible schedules including 24/7 coverage, weekends, holidays, and on-call availability across clinical and satellite operations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
- Ability to travel throughout and between facilities
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Ability to adapt to change in a positive, constructive manner
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
- Ability to travel throughout and between facilities
Desired Qualifications
- 2 years of sterile processing experience
- Graduation from accepted course in sterile processing
- Certification through one of the following: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
- Certification through one of the following: International Association Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
- Certification through one of the following: Certified Sterile Processing Department Technican (CSPDT)
- Certification through one of the following: Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution(CBSPD)
- Certification through one of the following: Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER)
- Clinical knowledge
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Conflict resolution skills
- Ability to demonstrate good judgement in performing duties
