Job Summary
Sterile Processing Tech responsible for decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments and endoscopes. Maintains documentation, selects appropriate sterilization or high-level disinfection methods, and operates processing equipment. Uses instrument-management systems to track processing steps and supports timely distribution to procedural areas. Rotates across sterile processing work areas and supports shift, weekend, holiday, and on-call coverage. Collaborates with surgical services and care teams to ensure availability of sterile instruments. Certification as CRCST is strongly preferred but not required. Education: high school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred. Skills include excellent organization, multitasking, problem-solving, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and instrument-tracking software. Must understand medical terminology and wear appropriate PPE; able to follow infection-prevention protocols; capable of lifting up to 25 lbs; prior exposure to operating room environment and scrubs dress code. Environment involves decontamination and clean processing areas with exposure to moisture, chemicals, and noise.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent preferred
- Certification as CRCST strongly preferred, but not required
- Excellent organization, operations, people management, and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand medical terminology
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; exposure to instrument tracking software
- Ability to multitask; exposure to operating room environment; ability to lift up to 25 lbs
