Job Summary
Facilitate weekly lesson plans, activities, and creative projects that fuse arts and academic competencies for after-school students. Teach, promote lifetime decision-making, and engage youth in critical thinking, evaluation, risk-taking, and hands-on project-based learning. Coordinate subject-related trips, guest speakers, special events, student exhibitions, and college visits while acting as a role model. Share insights on student progress with team members and interpret African, African-American, and Latino history into diverse learning opportunities. Prepare curriculum reviewed by supervisors and attend weekly staff meetings. Fall schedule runs Monday through Thursday, 3 pm to 7 pm; summer schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. Hourly rate is $25 to $30.
Required Qualifications
- High School or Equivalent
- Must have at least 2 years of teaching experience
- A commitment to Youth Development and the mission and programs of HCZ
- Passion and experience with arts education involving youth
- Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people
- Excellent planning, organization, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to provide consistent and positive instruction as well as receive constructive criticism
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, available days and evening
- Experience working in youth development and teaching well-developed enrichment courses, social consciousness, self-identity, and efficacy
- Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player
- Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively on projects with staff and students and full curriculum
Desired Qualifications
- Conservatory training and/or university-level education and practical experience in the content area is preferred
- college students currently pursuing degree-level work are also encouraged to apply
