Job Summary
Review architectural/structural drawings, specs, and bid documents to understand project scope; perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, bolts, welds, decking, coatings; develop detailed cost estimates and bid proposals including labor forecasting, material costs, and subcontractor pricing; coordinate with preconstruction and project teams to align on scope and strategy; identify scope gaps, risks, and value engineering opportunities; maintain historical cost databases and contribute to bid reviews and turnover discussions; lead efforts in completing complete bid proposals, pricing summaries, and documentation for submission deadlines; leverage fabrication, shop labor, field erection, crane services, and subcontracted work insights to drive competitiveness and profitability; familiarity with OSHA/MSDS requirements and safety compliance; background in steel detailing or project management is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in structural steel estimating or steel construction industry
- Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and specifications (AISC standards strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, erection sequencing, and field installation methods
- Knowledge of construction sequencing, crane operations, rigging, and field logistics
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software platforms
- High attention to detail with ability to perform under tight bid deadlines and fast-paced environments
