Job Summary
Install and test batteries, load centers, chargers, racks, and associated equipment at substations, communication sites, and power plants. Perform maintenance and testing of new and existing batteries in the system. Recognize errors in battery systems and make recommendations to the designer for corrections. Coordinate work with other construction crews, regional crews, and system dispatchers. Arrange shutdown and switching while ensuring crew safety around high voltage equipment. Train apprentices and journeymen in battery work. Work out of town on back-to-back weeks, including four 10-hour days or eight 10-hour days in consecutive weeks, with overnight stays. Complete required hazardous materials training and adhere to safety protocols. Join Idaho Power's Substation Construction team to provide safe, reliable energy across Idaho and Oregon.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Associates degree in electronics discipline
- 2 years of electrical or battery installation/testing experience
- State-recognized Journeyman Electrician License
- Completion of a related formal apprenticeship training program recognized by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
- Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
- Current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an attached State-issued Hazardous Materials endorsement or have the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire
- First Aid/CPR card within 90 days
- Completion of appropriate Stations Apprentice program
- High school diploma or GED
- Associates degree in electronics discipline
- 5 or more years work experience in and electrical or control wiring field
- At least 3 years of electrical experience in substations
- State recognized Journeyman Electrician License with 3 or more years of electrical experience in substations outside of apprenticeship hours
- Completion of a related formal apprenticeship training program recognized by the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship with three or more years of electrical experience in substations outside of apprenticeship hours
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, crouch, climb ladders, twist, kneel, balance and reach
- Ability to occasionally lift above shoulder, waist-high and knee high items weighing up to 75 lbs.
