Statewide Climate Justice Organizer

Job Summary
Coordinate outreach and recruitment plans for CHIRLA's climate-impacted members while implementing a statewide leadership development program. Convene member meetings, workshops, and coalition gatherings; develop and disseminate immigrant rights materials tied to climate justice campaigns. Lead campaign development and media strategies that center directly impacted members, conducting necessary research and presentations to the community at large. Manage regional coalition-building efforts, support fundraising for committee activities, and travel throughout California to carry out duties. Work with the Organizing Department and Policy staff to advance climate justice for BIPOC immigrant communities, requiring flexibility for evening and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of community college or equivalent related experience
- Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of CHIRLA
- Proven experience in a non-profit organization or research firm
- Two years community involvement or direct organizing experience
- Strong oral and written advocacy skills
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work and problem-solve under pressure
- Excellent research and policy development skills
- Experience in campaign development and implementation
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Spanish fluency or high proficiency
- Mixteco or other indigenous language speakers
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships throughout the organization and community
- Flexibility based on the needs of the organization
- Availability for some evening and weekend work
- Computer literacy: word processing, internet navigation, and other work-related applications
- Ability to use a personal vehicle to travel between worksites or other locations

- Demonstrated ability to be proactive in their approach to assigned responsibilities
- Strong commitment to CHIRLA's mission of empowering low-income community groups
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse community
- Knowledge of and commitment to immigrant and worker rights and CHIRLA's mission
