Job Summary
Plan and execute a multi-year state legislative and regulatory agenda for New York, drafting bills, securing sponsors, and testifying before state committees. Develop relationships with legislators and officials to ensure representation on task forces, while tracking legislation and monitoring committee actions. Collaborate with the National Public Policy Office to implement nationwide policy priorities covering insurance, Medicaid, and aging issues. Coordinate the annual State Advocacy Day event and assist with grassroots engagement activities including office visits and correspondence. Provide regular updates to state leadership and prepare reports for board meetings. Maintain compliance with state lobbying regulations and internal tracking systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- At least 5 years' experience working in state government affairs setting
- Experience as a state legislative staff person
- Experience as policy staff in the governor's office
- Experience as policy staff in a relevant state agency
- Experience preferably in New York
- Current contacts within the state legislature
- Current contacts within the executive branch
- Contacts with potential partners and collaborators in New York
- Understanding of the legislative process in New York
- Experience with the regulatory process in New York
- Experience with the budget process in New York
- Familiarity with Medicaid issues
- Familiarity with aging issues
- Familiarity with health issues
- Familiarity with drug coverage issues
- Familiarity with long-term care issues
- Ability to anticipate public policy opportunities
- Ability to identify public policy opportunities
