Job Summary

Assist in the startup of HVAC systems and equipment under supervision, performing basic system checks, recording operating conditions, and verifying performance meets specifications. Review project scope, drawings, and startup documentation to understand assigned work, then support senior technicians with control systems setup, equipment testing, and troubleshooting. Document all activities daily in Vista, maintaining accurate project logs and photos while ensuring startup sheets and checklists are completed. Communicate material needs, delays, or jobsite conditions to the Startup Supervisor promptly. Follow established procedures to ensure consistency and safety across projects, providing feedback for process improvements. Maintain professional communication with project managers, field leadership, and customers while upholding a culture of accountability and quality workmanship.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2–4 years of HVAC experience
  • EPA Universal or Type II certification
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, including refrigeration cycles and airflow principles
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools, meters, and gauges used in HVAC startup work
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn control systems and assist with wiring and commissioning tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Talk or hear, both in person and by telephone
  • Use hand (s) and fingers to handle or feel objects or controls
  • Reach with hand (s) and arm (s)
  • Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of HVAC experience (commercial or light commercial preferred)
  • Technical or trade school certificate
  • Experience with VRF systems, rooftop units, or chillers
  • EPA Universal or Type II certification (or obtained within 90 days of hire)
