Standalone Transmission Safety Representative

Job Summary
The Standalone Transmission Safety Representative at FirstEnergy is responsible for providing safety leadership and technical expertise across electric business units. This role involves reinforcing the Safety Management System by collaborating with Business Unit leaders, conducting field engagements, verifying safety controls for high-risk work, and leading investigations into incidents and near-misses. The representative will deliver training, analyze safety data to identify trends, and promote a culture of safety while mentoring other Safety Representatives. A Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience in the utility sector, along with strong safety management and operational skills, are essential for this position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering, or a related field; or demonstrated journey‐level or qualified craft experience (e.g., lineworker, substation, meter, or similar field roles)
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive utility or energy‐related experience
- Experience supporting field operations within the electric utility, energy, or industrial infrastructure sectors
- Demonstrated ability to apply SMS principles in field-based operations
- Strong facilitation, communication, and coaching skills
- Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Intelex
Desired Qualifications
- Prior field, supervisory, or technical experience in utility, generation, transmission, distribution, or comparable industrial sectors
- Professional certification (e.g., ASP, GSP, CSP)
- OSHA training certification
- Experience developing training content and/or authoring or improving standards/procedures
