Job Summary
Greet audience members, answer queries, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of venue policies and upcoming concerts at Davies Symphony Hall. Provide guidance to Volunteer Ushers, instruct them on emergency procedures, and resolve conflicts that arise during performances. Attend Emergency Response Plan meetings, implement the plan when necessary, and complete Red Cross CPR, AED, and Life Saving courses. Participate in feedback sessions for the Ushers' Liaison Committee and attend other required trainings. Shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis by the House Manager, typically covering weeknights and weekends from 12:30pm to 6pm, with most shifts lasting four hours until the venue is vacated. This part-time role reports to the Front of House Manager and requires membership in the Theatrical Employees Union.
Required Qualifications
- Staff Ushers must become a member of the Theatrical Employees Union – Local B-18
- Must be able to provide usher coverage for an assigned area for an extended period of time, which may include standing and traversing stairs
- Consistent availability on weeknights and weekends
- Follow required dress code
- Ability to Work with and provide guidance to Volunteer Ushers
- Handle conflict resolution in a customer service environment
- Use ticket scanners and two-way radio / walkie talkie
- Exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of San Francisco Symphony's diverse range of audience members
- Communicate effectively with a diverse range of people, including donors, prospective donors, volunteers, board members and community partners
- Attend Emergency Response Plan meetings, implement Emergency Response Plan when necessary and place radio call to First Aid staff when needed
- Attend Red Cross sponsored CPR, AED and Life Saving courses
Desired Qualifications
- Customer service and patron or guest service experience preferred- experience as an usher at a performing arts venue is desirable
