Job Summary

Apply system safety engineering principles per MIL-STD-882 and Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook to support development and certification of systems and software to DO-178/DO-254 Standards. Prepare System Safety Engineering analysis and generate documents including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, and Software System Safety Analyses. Identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action to mitigate hazards using a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System. Develop, review, update, and approve System Safety Artifacts and System Safety Requirements. Communicate project status to the CAM and IPT Lead as required. This fully onsite position in Woodland Hills, CA, operates on a 9/80 schedule and is contingent on program award. The role requires a Bachelor's degree plus 12 years of experience (or equivalent higher education/experience) and an active U.S. Government Secret clearance.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882
  • Experience with preliminary hazard analyses
  • Experience with function/system/subsystem hazard analyses
  • Experience with fault tree analyses
  • Experience with software system safety analyses
  • Experience with safety assessment reports
  • Experience using DO-178
  • Experience using DO-254
  • Experience using JSSSEH
  • Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures
  • Ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts
  • Ability to develop, review, update and approve system safety requirements
  • Understanding of requirements development
  • Understanding of system/software architecture
  • Understanding of hardware/software design
  • Understanding of software code implementation
  • Understanding of test
  • Understanding of verification

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with requirements tools such as DOORS, Cameo, PLM Systems
  • Familiarity with Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions
  • Familiarity with Agile software tools
  • Familiarity with JIRA
  • Familiarity with Confluence
  • Led a team in software safety processes in Engineering and Manufacturing Development Phase
  • Extensive expertise in the application of Military systems safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.
  • Experience in Agile
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
  • Experience with generating or reviewing Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Experience with FMEA
  • Possess active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance
