Job Summary
Staff Level Systems Integration Engineer for IonQ's Quantum Networking team. Lead cross-disciplinary integration of theoretical research and applied engineering to translate research findings into system requirements, perform verification and validation testing, and manage data-driven trade studies. Work hands-on in a hardware-in-loop environment to validate hardware functionality and reliability; develop automated testing and deployment processes; and build Graphical User Interfaces for advanced control and troubleshooting of hardware. Requires a minimum of 10 years of experience in complex hardware-software integration, strong background in hardware-focused software engineering, and demonstrated ability to bring systems through a complete development cycle to production readiness. Proficiency in Python, Java, MATLAB (or similar), embedded software, and FPGA development; strong communication and data visualization skills; familiarity with engineering tool suites and model-based engineering practices; and an engineering mindset to bridge research with practical system engineering.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a development role with complex hardware and software integration leading to production readiness
- Experience with hardware-focused software development including hardware test scripting, monitoring of telemetry, and instrumentation for remote operation
- Familiarity with embedded software programming and FPGA development
Desired Qualifications
- M.S. in Engineering or related field (preferred)
- Extensive experience in system design and assembly within high-precision technological fields
- Proven ability to synthesize scientific research into actionable engineering tasks and projects
- Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, MATLAB, or similar programming languages used in scientific research and engineering development
- Excellent communication and data visualization skills
- Proficiency in technical performance tracking and familiarity with engineering tool suites and model-based engineering practices
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification or similar
- Experienced with hardware performance monitoring and analysis, along with telemetry streaming platforms like Grafana
- Experienced with programming and automation of instrumentation and control systems
- Experienced with development of Graphical User Interfaces for advanced control and troubleshooting of hardware
- Experienced with embedded software design and programming, along with FPGA development
- Solid understanding of configuration management and source code management systems
