Staff Systems Design Engineer (Electrical)

Job Summary
Design, document, and deploy custom electrical and electronic systems tailored to customer requirements, including defining interfaces, selecting components, and prototyping turnkey automated solutions for the automotive industry. Interface with NI engineering teams, customers, partners, and contract manufacturers to gather specifications, generate documentation, and manage Bills of Materials. Lead project plans, direct support personnel, and resolve field issues while traveling up to 25% domestically and abroad. Drive technical decisions and ensure systems meet readiness standards for global deployment.
Required Qualifications
- B. S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics or Electronics Engineering Technology
- Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience in a Hardware Systems Design, Electrical Engineering, or Test Engineering Design Role
- Understanding of electrical engineering, electronics & computer architectures
- Familiarity with high-level programming languages (LabVIEW, TestStand, C/C++/C#)
- Appropriate selection of instrumentation and equipment to meet system requirements
- Understanding of schematics, wiring diagrams, and signal routing
- Measurement methodologies and sources of measurement error
- Integration of hardware and software
- Bill of Materials creation and review
- Familiarity with CAD and electrical/electronic design tools
- Only U.S. Persons (U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or protected individuals as defined by 22 CFR §120) may be considered
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications
- Hands on use of schematic capture tools and PCB design tools
- Knowledge in component supplier selection
- Hands on use of NI Hardware Platforms and Instruments
- SolidWorks Electrical with 3D plugin
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and internal Manufacturing groups
- Work effectively in a diverse, multi-cultural group development environment
- Problem-solve effectively – identify technical issues and propose reasonable solutions
