Job Summary

Architect and implement scalable, efficient data systems, storage solutions, and processing frameworks using state-of-the-art technologies. Serve as a subject matter expert in distributed systems and data technologies, driving technical innovation and research to stay ahead of emerging best practices. Mentor and coach a team of engineers while collaborating with cross-functional partners to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the lifecycle, adhering to industry standards and compliance requirements. This Staff Software Engineer role on the Data Substrate team requires 8+ years of experience in data infrastructure and involves occasional in-person reporting for team gatherings or customer meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of software development experience, with a focus on data infrastructure
  • Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex, large-scale data projects
  • Strong expertise in big data components such as Kafka, Clickhouse, Spark and other distributed computing systems
  • Strong expertise with orchestrating, scaling, and managing containerized applications in production environments using Kubernetes (K8s) and Terraform/Helm
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale data platforms on cloud computing systems like AWS
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, and Go with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical roadmaps and drive alignment across cross-functional teams
  • Proven leadership experience in mentoring and developing engineers
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high-impact results
  • Must be able to report in person on an ad-hoc basis for team gatherings, functional off-sites or customer meetings
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings
  • Must be located outside of Colorado, California, New York, and Washington

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of tying into various authorization/authentication systems
  • Networking and network security knowledge
  • Deep expertise in Clickhouse: demonstrated experience in architecting, tuning, and operating Clickhouse at scale
