Job Summary
Staff Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications and backend services, mentor team members, and drive technical decisions in a fast-paced, agile environment for Pearson’s Higher Education web products.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field
- 4–6+ years of hands-on experience in frontend or full stack web development
- Deep expertise in JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular
- State management with Redux or similar
- Strong command of JavaScript and TypeScript
- CSS-in-JS, SASS/SCSS, or modular styling systems
- Experience with design systems and component libraries
- Web performance optimization and lazy loading
- Responsive design and cross-browser testing
- Backend technologies: Node.js, Python, or Java
- RESTful APIs and service-oriented architecture
- Familiarity with AWS or Azure
- Experience with MySQL and NoSQL databases
- Strong understanding of modern web architecture and performance
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Proactive, team-oriented mindset
- Nice to have: Next.js, Jest, Testing Library, Cypress, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes
- Exposure to mobile web or hybrid app development
