Job Summary
Lead architecture for a from-scratch native app rewrite, replacing legacy WebView-based screens with full native experiences. Design and evolve SDUI, BFF, KMP, and front-end layers while integrating AI tools like Claude Code into daily workflows to reduce engineering toil. Set the technical bar by leading architecture reviews, mentoring engineers, and raising code quality standards across the team. Partner directly with Product, UX, Backend, and SRE teams to translate ambiguous problems into scalable, shippable solutions. This Staff Software Engineer role focuses on driving the end-to-end customer shopping experience for The Home Depot's mobile application.
Required Qualifications
- Must be eighteen years of age or older
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
- Bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job
Desired Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in mobile development
- Native experience - Hands-on native mobile expertise (iOS and/or Android), not just cross-platform tooling
- Track record leading technical direction on complex, cross-team initiatives: architecture design, modernization, refactors at scale
- Real experience building or operating server-driven UI and backend-for-frontend layers in production
- Genuine care about performance as a customer experience problem, not a checkbox
- Comfortable using AI tools (Claude Code and similar) as part of your daily workflow, and excited to help the team build internal tooling that does the same
- Able to drive alignment and technical decisions across teams without formal authority
- Can explain a hard technical tradeoff to an engineer and to a non-technical stakeholder equally well
