Job Summary
Staff Engineer on Market Making domain responsible for pricing engine, order management, data ingestion, or PnL infrastructure; ownership of end-to-end reliability and performance in a live trading environment; hands-on role delivering low-latency systems, collaborating with trading teams, and developing internal trading UI tooling; required experience includes 7+ years in distributed systems and proficiency with Java, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, AWS, and Postgres; additional preferred exposure to real-time trading, FIX, market data platforms, and quantitative concepts; strong emphasis on latency, throughput, and domain ownership.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years building scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems in production environments
- Strong hands-on proficiency with Java, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, AWS, and Postgres
- Deep experience with event-driven architecture and async messaging
- Demonstrated end-to-end domain ownership: designed, built, operated, and improved systems
- Strong performance instincts focusing on latency, throughput, and data pipeline efficiency
- Clear, direct communicator able to write design docs and explain production failures
- High tolerance for ambiguity and speed, comfortable with daily deployments and evolving specs
- Preferred: 3+ years building systems with latency, throughput, and cost efficiency tensions
- Preferred: experience in real-time trading, financial infrastructure, market data platforms, or prediction markets
- Preferred: familiarity with FIX protocol or exchange connectivity patterns
- Preferred: working knowledge of quantitative concepts like pricing models, spread optimization, inventory management
- Willingness to participate in on-site components in NYC for non-seasonal hires
