Staff Software Engineer – Interoperability & Cybersecurity

Job Summary

Design and develop data connectivity, interoperability, and secure software solutions for medical devices in Neonatal Intensive Care and Labor & Delivery environments. Translate system architecture and product requirements into well-designed software components, ensuring compliance with medical device standards and quality practices. Conduct technical design reviews, code reviews, and static analysis to maintain uncompromised quality, while implementing solutions aligned with shared platforms. Collaborate with Electrical and Systems Engineers to produce detailed architecture and design, utilizing AI tools to accelerate development. Research emerging AI methodologies and security frameworks to keep the software cutting edge. Work within an agile-scrum environment with a team of Software Engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related STEM major
  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience as a software engineer in a product development team
  • 2+ years of experience in data connectivity, communication protocols, and system integration including HL7, FHIR, and healthcare interoperability standards
  • 1+ year of experience developing and supporting HL7-based interfaces and healthcare data exchange workflows
  • 1+ year of experience designing secure connected systems including authentication, encryption, secure communication, and device/network hardening
  • Experience with cloud connectivity, IoMT architectures, and device-to-system data exchange
  • Experience with UI/application layer development (e.g., Qt, web-based UI, or other frameworks) to support data visualization and user interaction
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, Design patterns, Algorithms and data structures
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Experience performing or supporting penetration testing, static/dynamic analysis, and security audits
  • Knowledge of secure communication protocols (TLS, HTTPS, MQTT over TLS, VPNs)
  • Experience designing systems with defense-in-depth architectures and minimizing attack surfaces
  • Awareness of cyber incident response, logging, monitoring, and forensic readiness

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities and experience creating flexible code
  • Experience with FHIR APIs, RESTful services, and modern healthcare interoperability frameworks
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows and hospital system integration (EHR, EMR, LIS, PACS)
  • Understanding of data integrity, traceability, and auditability in regulated healthcare systems
  • Experience troubleshooting real-world integration issues (message failures, latency, mismatched schemas, etc.)
  • Familiarity with healthcare data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR where applicable)
  • Experience with event-driven architectures for clinical data exchange
  • Experience using AI-assisted software development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation while maintaining engineering rigor
  • Strong understanding of threat modeling, risk assessments, and vulnerability management for connected systems
  • Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM) concepts, including certificate-based authentication and role-based access control
  • Familiarity with security standards and guidance for medical devices (e.g., FDA cybersecurity guidance, NIST frameworks)
