Staff Software Engineer, Full Stack Manufacturing Software

$220,000–$290,000 year

On-siteCosta Mesa, California, United States

Full TimeSenior LevelLargeDefense Technology

Job Summary

Build full-stack web applications for daily production planning, work assignment, and team-lead dashboards that drive real-time factory execution. Develop offline-capable, mobile-friendly interfaces for network-constrained environments and architect robust data synchronization strategies handling conflict resolution. Partner with manufacturing engineers to translate shop-floor workflows into software requirements and deploy systems across edge compute clusters and OT networks. Write production-quality code with comprehensive tests, set technical direction, and mentor junior engineers on resilient, user-centered manufacturing software. Join an on-call rotation supporting critical factory systems while collaborating cross-functionally with backend and operations teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a software engineering role building production systems, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep expertise in full-stack web development, with demonstrated mastery of both frontend and backend systems.
  • Strong technical fluency in modern software architectures, APIs, distributed systems, CI/CD, and cloud or edge infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with web-based technologies including JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, and modern web frameworks.
  • Experience building offline-capable web applications using service workers, IndexedDB, local storage, and progressive web app (PWA) patterns.
  • Experience building systems that must operate reliably under real-world operational constraints (high availability, low latency, or constrained environments).
  • Experience working with large enterprise applications and platforms with high availability requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • U.S. Person status is required as this position needs to access export controlled data.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or OT-adjacent domains (MES, SCADA, PLC integration, factory automation, IoT).
  • Hands-on experience building mobile-first or offline-capable web applications for network-constrained, industrial, or field environments.
  • Experience with data synchronization patterns, conflict resolution strategies, and eventual consistency models in distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with frontier AI tooling, AI coding assistants, and AI-enabled software development workflows.
  • Experience in hyper-growth startup-like environments, with demonstrated success balancing speed, ambiguity, and long-term system health.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems such as ERP, MES, WMS, or manufacturing planning systems.
  • Experience designing UX/UI for non-desk workers, including touch-optimized, rugged device interfaces and accessibility considerations for manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in manufacturing industries with hands-on exposure to assembly lines or production environments.
  • Understanding of edge computing architectures and deployment patterns for factory floor applications.
  • Experience with GraphQL, real-time data subscriptions, or WebSocket-based architectures.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
