Job Summary
Staff Software Engineer at Fanatics with responsibility for developing, testing, documenting, and deploying high-quality software into production; building large features and tools used across teams; leading large project development efforts; managing multiple projects in parallel; simplifying designs for reusability, efficiency, stability, and maintainability; resolving architectural questions; participating in on-call rotations; identifying root causes of complex issues; mentoring junior engineers and interns; and engaging in design discussions, technology scouting, and onboarding improvements. The role requires strong communication skills and a track record of delivering production-grade software in collaboration with product managers and stakeholders, with up to 5% domestic travel and partial on-site/remote work at the New York HQ.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field plus 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer/Developer or equivalent performing analysis, design, and testing
- In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years, Master’s of Science Degree plus 3 years of professional experience in similar roles
- 3 years of experience developing, testing, and deploying production-grade software using modern development frameworks and tools including Spring Boot, Maven, GitHub, GitHub Actions, REST, gRPC, AWS, and Java
- 3 years of experience implementing internal tools/features to enhance engineering productivity and workflows
- 3 years of experience participating in code reviews and maintaining high code quality and maintainability
- 3 years of experience designing scalable, testable software systems with focus on operational excellence and long-term maintainability
- 3 years of experience staying current with emerging technologies and applying trends to improve product performance
- 3 years of experience performing root cause analysis and resolving critical software issues in production
- 3 years of experience collaborating cross-functionally with product managers and stakeholders to align technical decisions with business goals
- 3 years of experience mentoring junior engineers or interns
- 3 years of experience in a regulated industry including gaming, fintech, banking, or health care
- 3 years of experience developing, testing, and deploying production-grade software using geolocation software (GeoComply/OpenBet/XPoint)
