Job Summary
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Dow Jones Web Platform Team, you will drive product innovation and ensure system scalability and performance. You will lead technical strategy, balancing hands-on development with architectural oversight, while bridging business and tech by liaising between Engineering, Product, Editorial, and Marketing. Your responsibilities include proactively identifying systemic issues, managing technical debt, and establishing quality standards. You will mentor team members, solve large-scale problems, and improve productivity using AI tools. Candidates must have over 7 years of software engineering experience and a solid understanding of relevant technologies.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years in software engineering
- 3–5 years in a lead engineering role
- Substantial experience in building digital subscription products, advertising and privacy technologies, and high-traffic websites
- Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals including web development, service-oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development, and domain driven design
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent or equivalent work experience
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI)
- Strong understanding of Javascript and web stack best practices (ExpressJs, React, Redis, NextJs, Node.Js)
- Advanced CSS Knowledge: Grid, Flexbox, Media Queries, Container Queries, Transitions
