Job Summary
Staff Backend Engineer to develop, run and evolve large-scale web applications, define backend architecture and tech stack for product areas, improve performance, reliability, scalability and security of backend systems, and drive transition from monolithic codebases to microservices. Role involves cross-functional collaboration, mentorship of junior to mid-level engineers, and influencing technical roadmaps; will operate backend services and architectures supporting product functionality across a globally distributed engineering footprint. Hybrid role with in-office time expected in San Francisco.
Required Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent
- 8+ years of industry experience
- Proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) in the full software development lifecycle
- Experience with backend tech stacks
- Experience with service oriented architecture, writing REST APIs, unit testing, and architectural design
- Understanding of modern web stacks and architecture (HTTP, REST)
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and other technologies (e.g. Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ)
