Job Summary
Set technical strategy for the EU backend team on a year-long scale while leading architecture for all card systems and managing relationships with regional counterparts. Drive critical, business-impacting projects across just-in-time transaction processing and post-transaction ledgering/reconciliation stacks. Act as a force-multiplier by defining operational processes, establishing code review standards, and fostering a culture of quality through technical advocacy. Own team availability by maintaining monitoring, triage rotations, and alerting playbooks to support on-call efforts. Guide talent development through feedback and mentorship while collaborating with product, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability. This experimental engineering role supports Affirm's mission to reinvent credit cards for global consumers, working remotely across Poland.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a software engineer
- Proficient in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- Proficient in developing front end applications
- Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality in a system through the definition of a technical and execution plan
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team
- Location - Remote Poland
- The majority of our roles can be located anywhere in Poland
Desired Qualifications
- You have a total of 8+ years of experience as a software engineer
- You are proficient in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
- You are proficient in developing front end applications
- You have experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality in a system through the definition of a technical and execution plan
- You write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others
- You thrive in ambiguity, and are comfortable moving from low level language idioms all the way to the architecture of large systems to understand how they work
- Your growth and impact trajectory demonstrates that you have mastered gathering and iterating on feedback from your engineering and cross-functional peers
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team
