Job Summary
Staff Software Engineer, AI at Fabric Health leads the technical direction for advanced language and voice AI applications, owning end-to-end architecture for mission-critical ML/AI features, productionizing ML components in Python, and mentoring senior engineers. The role partners with product and medical teams to implement safeguards and business constraints, designs robust interfaces for Data Science applications, and drives automated evaluation frameworks to measure accuracy, fairness, and performance. You will own NLP/AI diagnosis components, monitor system performance, prioritize improvements, and shape Fabric’s long-term AI strategy with emphasis on AWS Bedrock, scalability, and responsible AI in healthcare. The position requires autonomous problem solving, leadership in ML/AI, collaboration across teams, and clear communication to both technical and non-technical audiences. A master’s degree or equivalent high-level experience is expected, with strong backend Python fluency, embeddings expertise, cloud AWS deployment, and a track record of moving models from research to production in healthcare contexts.
Required Qualifications
- A masters' degree in a related field, or 8+ years of experience in software engineering or applied machine learning, with a strong focus on building real-world AI/ML systems, or demonstrable experience developing healthcare-specific AI/ML solutions
- Proficiency in backend software engineering using Python
- Solid understanding of embeddings and embedding databases
- Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks and tools, with constant attention to new tools, trends, and technologies
- Experience building and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS
- Demonstrated ability to bring models from research to production, solving for latency, scale, and reliability
- Effective communication skills and ability to work across disciplines in a fast-paced, agile environment
- Strong technical leadership skills, with a focus on growing and supporting a senior-level team
- Bonus Points: prior work on multimodal AI interfaces or agent-based dialogue systems, hosting/scaling/fine-tuning open-source models
- Interest in healthcare AI and improving healthcare access/outcomes
