Job Summary
Lead the technical direction of software delivery as a product within The New York Times' Developer Platforms, specifically shaping paved paths in the application delivery platform (CI/CD and artifact management) to improve code health, release quality, and delivery speed. Collaborate with Product and engineering leaders to shape the roadmap for the delivery platform, deliver scalable, secure, and observable delivery systems, champion engineering best practices for testing and deployment strategies, mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and foster an inclusive culture centered on high-quality software delivery. This role emphasizes guiding cross-team work, ensuring reliability and velocity of software delivery, and supporting the journalistic mission with technically robust platforms.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience building the technical strategy and driving CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Argo CD or equivalent) and software delivery with broad organizational impact beyond operations
- Demonstrated proficiency in building and maintaining production services in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Go, Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Java), including code review and debugging complex issues
- 7+ years of experience with containers, Kubernetes, package management tools (Helm or equivalent), IAC tools (Terraform or equivalent), GitOps-based deployment workflows and cloud services such as AWS, GCP
- Proficiency in GenAI-assisted developer tooling (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, or Claude Code) and passion for improving software delivery by leveraging these tools
- Experience leading cross-team technical work, communicating trade-offs, and building understanding among diverse partners including Product, platform, and product engineering teams
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture
