Job Summary
Staff Software Engineer, AI Developer Tools at Gusto. Architect AI core infrastructure to integrate LLMs into the developer workflow, focusing on autonomous agents, RAG, and smart context delivery to accelerate engineering across Gusto. Build secure, scalable internal AI tooling and pipelines; drive engineering best practices, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails for code safety; partner with product, Infrastructure, and Security teams to ensure scalability and compliance. Role emphasizes reducing developer friction through AI tooling, self-healing CI/CD pipelines, and automated code refactors, with a strong emphasis on reliability, latency optimization, and cost management. Requires 8+ years of systems experience, production AI experience, and strong leadership/communication skills; hybrid work model with offices in Denver, SF, NYC, and Seattle, plus US-wide remote options.
