Job Summary
Staff Software Engineer on the OfferUp Business team owns end-to-end feature delivery from concept to production, defining multi-quarter technical roadmaps and shipping high-impact microservices with strong operational rigor. You’ll design and operate high-throughput services with reliability and observability, collaborate across Product, Design, and Business stakeholders, drive experimentation and A/B testing, mentor other engineers, and champion AI tooling across the team. You’ll balance engineering improvements with business needs, guide technical vision for a set of services, and participate in on-call rotations while maintaining code quality and accelerating delivery across multiple business verticals.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and operating data-driven applications at scale
- Experience performing data analysis and translating results into business recommendations
- Hands-on experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) in a production engineering workflow
- Strong Java skills (required) and fluency in any other modern language; deep grounding in OOP, microservices, and distributed-systems design
- Hands-on experience designing and building microservices and scalable distributed systems
- Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure
- BS or MS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
