Staff Researcher II: Bioinformatics Scientist

Job Summary

Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines using Python, R, and Shell on Linux/cloud HPC platforms to analyze large sequencing datasets. Build machine-learning frameworks and statistical models to optimize biological sequences and interpret translational results. Collaborate with scientists to enhance standard processes, troubleshoot computational methods, and transform analysis scripts into efficient code. Manage project resources to ensure on-time delivery while preparing statistical analyses and maintaining related databases. Lead research on next-generation sequencing algorithms and develop new methodologies using clinical data.

  • Extensive knowledge of coding languages for data mining and the development of tools, such as R, Python, Java and SQL
  • Experience with large multi-dimensional data sets
  • Knowledge and experience with genetic statistics analytical methods
  • Ability to identify, propose and develop a new form of technology and methodology to bioinformatics research
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Machine Learning, Physics or relative STEM-level major
  • Proficiency programming in R, Python, Perl, Java, SQL (or C/C++)
  • Experience in a cluster computing setting
  • Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools
  • Understanding, experience and up-to-date usage of biostatistics and bioinformatics algorithms
  • Demonstrable ability to provide scientific critique of ideas, an interpretation of results and direction of research projects related to bioinformatics research
  • Master's or Ph.D in the disciplines of Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or Computational Biology/Chemistry
  • Minimum of five years of experience in an industrial research capacity
  • Fluent in English
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written)
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant public or proprietary databases, methods and tools
  • Willingness to participate in monthly meetups and annual conferences, conventions, etc.
  • Comfortable working alongside other scientists, mathematicians, engineers and programmers in order to collaborate on ideas and achieve the fulfillment of objectives
  • Willingness to engage in conversation with others concerning technical attributes pertaining to subject matter relative to objectives of the job
